Carmel Skutelsky
Gallery Daugava has published an album about the photographer Karmels Skutelskis (1948–2011). The publication of this, along with other art albums, has been financially supported by the entrepreneur Guntis Rāvis. Karamela Skutelska Photography Album. This publication presents a small selection of the works by the outstanding photographer from Liepāja, Karamela Skutelska. “The Liepājnieki Anna and Roberts Sedoli saved 11 Jews from death by providing them shelter in their home, including the parents of Karmels Skutelski. The Skutelski family lived in Liepāja on Avotu Street. The father photographed for his own pleasure and had acquired an enlarger and other equipment needed to make photos. Karmels also enjoyed photographing and working with this equipment. In Mr. Bokum’s photo studio he helped with auxiliary tasks and eagerly learned photographic techniques. His father gave him his first camera, a Salūts, and then he wanted to learn even more." Now, in his memory — our Liepājnieks from Israel — this publication has been created, documenting only a small part of his works and our love and respect for him — Karmels Skutelski.
